Meet Fabien De Wolf, our forklift driver

An established name within Bekina, that’s Fabien. He already has some years on his clock, is far from finished. Therefor we like to put Fabien in the picture.

How long have you been working for Bekina? And what did you start as?

I’ve been working at Bekina since 1994, which is now 28 years. I started in the injection moulding department. Back then, it wasn’t that automated as it is now and a lot more manual handling needed to be done.

What exactly does your job entail?

Clarkist phantasist .

In short, I drive around, in the whole company. I do packaging, pour out containers, make sure everything is kept clean. Everything has to be straight, even at home in my work space. I have my own catering business as a secondary profession, “Kok aan huis” (home cook), and there, too, everything is always spotless.

How do you combine your part-time job with a full-time job at Bekina?

Going to bed early. It’s hard work. We also provided all the food for the Zulzeekse Feesten and for the Beer Festival in Oudenaarde (local festivities at Zulzeke and Oudenaarde). But I am not alone! I have a network to support me, f.ex. my wife and my son. In doing so, I don’t have to be present at every party myself. We also regularly call on flexijobbers.

What makes your work fun?

A lot of variety, I drive through the entire factory, I’m in touch with many people within Bekina. Sometimes the phone rings too much, but we are happy to hand with helping. We do our best to provide whatsoever, so the colleagues can execute their jobs in the best possible way.

Why are you proud of your work?

Having everything tidy and clean. I don’t say this because they like to hear it here in Bekina, but that’s the pride I have in my job. Going that extra mile, that’s nice for everyone.

What do you still want to achieve?

One thing. And that is that we stay healthy and that we can continue doing our job for a long time. We have to start seize the day, because we cannot predict anymore the distant future.

And finally then, one to remember: what moment at Bekina stands out in your memory?

It wasn’t at Bekina itself, but what will be forever in my mind is the boot-throwing at the Werktuigendagen (Tool days) in Oudenaarde. We had a lot of fun with our little group. You should know: I like to prank people and that weekend I didn’t stop. But at the end, they had me too. They took away my boots and I needed to go home on my stockings.
