Meet David Roos – Data & Analytics Specialist at Bekina nv

Today we’re turning the spotlight on David Roos, Data & Analytics Specialist at Bekina nv. David has been part of the Bekina family since January 2023. Discover what it’s like to work at Bekina, what his job entails and how his after-work initiatives help create a great working atmosphere and take team spirit to the next level.

As a Data & Analytics Specialist, my role consists of three major hatches. First, I’m responsible for preparing and maintaining reports (1). Secondly, I manage the master data (2) across Bekina’s various business units. In short, this means ensuring that all data in our ERP system, SAP, is accurate and up to date so that orders can be processed and shipped smoothly. This is essential, not only for our customers and suppliers, but also for our own production and inventory management. Finally, I analyse any problems within the ERP system (3) and make sure everything runs as efficiently as possible.

Before I started here, my role didn’t exist at Bekina. This allowed me to completely shape my position myself. I started here at the same time SAP was introduced. Switching to this new ERP system brought more traceability and efficiency. There was a need for someone who could focus on managing the master data and all the associated reporting, something that really appealed to me. I have a very broad job, where I interact with different colleagues from every possible department ranging from production and supply chain to warehouse and sales. Another big plus was the location, as my commute is bike-friendly! I regularly bike to work and that is certainly no hardship in the beautiful Flemish Ardennes, where Bekina is based in Kluisbergen. 

For me, it’s definitely the after-work initiatives I’ve introduced, such as board games, chess, puzzles, badminton, and Lego. I can always count on a lot of enthusiasm from colleagues – in fact, there is often more interest than I expect! These gatherings, whether during lunch breaks or after work, help people get to know each other in a relaxed setting. You create a different bond with each other, and it’s great to have new conversation starters. I'm often asked by people: I often get asked, ‘When’s the next after-work event?’, which shows just how much my colleagues appreciate these initiatives.

I’d say I’m particularly proud of all the Power BI reports I’ve developed since I started. These cover a wide range of areas, from production and purchasing to warehousing and sales. My reports are used daily by colleagues from different business units and departments. The shift from manual Excel spreadsheets in separate divisions to integrated Power BI reports has significantly improved efficiency and made data more accessible throughout the organization.

The best part is that my job isn’t limited to just one area. I get questions from all part of the company and so I do my part in every place in the organization towards improvement, efficiency and communication. I come into contact with lots of people and have a great relationship with colleagues. Having good colleagues around you makes a world of difference in your daily work routine.

As an SME, Bekina offers more flexibility than a large multinational, where roles tend to be more compartmentalized. Almost everyone here is closely involved in multiple aspects of the company. This is true not only for my role, but also for other colleagues. Take Internal Sales, for example. They don’t just process orders but are also closely involved with other areas like production and warehousing. This means you gain a lot more knowledge than if your tasks were the same every single day.

Definitely! My colleagues are amazing. I come to work every day with a smile, the atmosphere is great, and there’s always room for a joke or two. I rarely work from home because I genuinely enjoy being at the office and spending time with my colleagues. That’s why I would absolutely recommend a job at Bekina.

I am a big board game enthusiast, an avid chess player and a huge fan of Lego. It’s great that these hobbies aren’t just something I enjoy in my free time but can also be shared with colleagues during after-work events. I really appreciate how actively Bekina encourages and supports these kinds of initiatives.
