Bekina Boots in the Top 3 of ‘Lion of the Export 2017’

Each year, FIT (Flanders Investment and Trade) awards two Flemish companies the ‘Lion of the Export’ prize for their export success. This highlights the vital importance of export for the Flemish economy. Bekina Boots was nominated as a ‘Lion of the Export 2017’.

Bekina Boots "lion of the export" nominee

The jury for the ‘Lion of the Export’ nominated Bekina Boots in the category of companies with at least 50 employees, alongside Soudal in Turnhout and Skyline Communications in Izegem. In the category of companies with fewer than 50 employees, the nominees were: Comsof NV (Ghent), Klingele Chocolade NV (Evergem), and Lansweeper bvba (Grembergen).

Ultimately, ‘Klingele Chocolade’ and ‘Skyline Communications’ were declared winners in their respective categories. While Bekina Boots narrowly missed out on the top prize, securing a spot in the Top 3 of the ‘Lion of the Export’ already makes us immensely proud.

Flanders Investment and Trade also praised Bekina Boots in the press:

“Since its founding in 1962, Bekina Boots has been steadily building an international market from its home base in Kluisbergen. The company places a strong emphasis on technological innovation, including an in-house laboratory and the latest testing equipment, which set it apart. Over time, this ‘Lion’ candidate has grown into the second-largest player in its niche worldwide. In 2016, the 53 employees of Bekina Boots achieved a turnover of nearly 14 million euros, with 94% derived from exports to 43 countries globally.”
